Back in May we got a look at the Dead by Daylight Year 9 roadmap, which pointed toward Castlevania content for August 2024. Now that date has been narrowed down, and players can await the formal arrival of Dracula and Trevor Belmont on August 27.

The first tease for the Castlevania update came during the game’s 8th anniversary livestream. Behaviour Interactive promised more info on August 6, and they delivered with the launch date and trailer below. The Steam public test build is also now live.

The trailer opens with an imposing shot of Dracula’s castle, as Trevor Belmont steps into frame and reaches for his whip. Pulling off an iconic Castlevania shot isn’t going to be as simple this time around, though. Trevor takes on the role of a new Survivor in Dead by Daylight, which means good ol’ Drac is the Killer du jour.

After Trevor’s entrance we get a few choice shots of Dracula, but it’s all a CG-animated tease of what’s in store for us later this month. At the very least we know some of those forms we catch a glimpse of will be in play when Dracula stalks the Survivors.

Dead by Daylight creative director Dave Richard cited Symphony of the Night as one of his “favorite games of all time” in the press release. He added that the team “wanted to create a fluidity in the way players can have Dracula change between his different forms and have it feel seamless.” The forms featured in Dead by Daylight include Bat, Wolf, and, of course, Vampire. When Dracula is the featured Killer, his castle will loom on the map’s horizon.

As for how Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse star Trevor Belmont will fare as the resident Vampire Killer, that remains to be seen. If his quintessential skillset can’t stand up against Dracula, we’re pretty much screwed, so hopefully he’s up to the task when the crossover hits Dead by Daylight later this month.
