How To Find Diamonds In Minecraft: Diamond Level In Minecraft 1.18

Minecraft 1.18 introduced a number of significant changes to Minecraft's global generation. You can play Minecraft 1.18 or later and move below Y-Level 0, to go into negative figures. Below Y-Level 0, all normal ores, including Diamonds are embedded in Deepslate blocks.

You'll need to dig up to the Y-Level 15-Y-Level 64 to find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.18. However to increase your chances of finding Diamonds, you should go as far as you can prior to reaching bedrock. Because the spawn chance for Diamonds increases with every step you take,

For more information about where you can locate the highest concentrations of Diamonds or other resources, see the graph below of the distribution of ore in 1.18

As you can see it, the 1.18 update drastically changed the way ore deposits appear in Minecraft. The distribution of ores is illustrated by a bar that alters in thickness with different Y levels.

The formula for Diamond is quite simple. It is generated at Y=15 and grows linearly as you move down. However diamond placement is subject to what Mojang call "reduced air exposure" in 1.18. This means that when a Diamond is about to be placed next to an open air block during the world generation process, it stands the chance of not spawning. This makes it harder to find diamonds embedded within cave walls and other similar structures. If you want to maximize your chances of finding them, you will need to spend some time digging through the deepslate.

So, in summary: to locate diamonds quickly take a trip as low as you can go until you reach bedrock, then start strip-mining!

To know what Y-Level you're on, hit F3 to open the coordinates display. The second number after "XYZ" is the current level of the lower portion of your body.

Although not as robust as Netherite tools, Diamond tools are essential if you want to progress in any world or Minecraft server. Be sure to keep an eye on the Warden as The Wild Update arrives!

How to locate Diamonds in Minecraft 1.17

If you're still playing on Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, you'll be able to find Diamond Ore in every Overworld biome between Y-levels 1-15. They appear most often between levels 5-12. If you wish to increase your chances of finding Diamonds in your Overworld biome keep your sights on these two levels.

Whatever version of Minecraft you are using, diamonds will spawn in tiny veins that can hold that can be as high as 9 blocks per turn. However, you may occasionally see larger veins that are made up of multiple veins that touch each other. Therefore, even at the best levels, Diamonds are pretty rare.

The best method to mine Diamonds in Minecraft

Only an Iron Pickaxe is required to mine Diamond Ore. As of 1.18, Diamonds are far less common in open spaces like caves, which means to maximise your chances of finding Diamonds in Minecraft you must strip-mine in straight lines across all directions.

The most efficient method to mine Diamonds in Minecraft 1.18 is to dig down to level 57 and then dig two blocks high in any direction. Then, you can begin to mine on either side in 2x1 tunnels, leaving a two-block gap between each new tunnel.

Once you are satisfied that you have removed all Diamonds at that level, you can continue the process at level 53. If you dig in this way at both levels -57 and -53, then you'll be able to view all Diamonds that appear between levels -58 and. This allows you to extract the highest concentration of Diamonds without crashing into blocks of Bedrock which could slow down strip mining progress.

This method works with Minecraft 1.17 and earlier versions. However, levels 6 and 10 are required.

While mining, it's a good idea to keep a water bucket on your person, because pockets of lava are quite common at these levels. Remember also to bring plenty of torchlights to illuminate your way and prevent mobs from appearing in your tunnels. You can also use Night Vision potions to lighten your path, however this won't stop mobs from spawning.
