Radiant Echoes guide – Destructoid

At last, the pre-patch is in full swing, and the Radiant Echoes event is live in World of Warcraft. It’s time for the standard pre-patch limited time event. It’s a great way to catch up your characters in gear, but also earn some exclusive pets and mounts. This guide will teach you how everything works and how best to approach it.

Start things off with an introductory quest

When you first log in after the patch, you’re treated to a “Previously on World of Warcraft” video. It recaps everything that’s happened since Sargeras stabbed the planet. You’ll then have a quest to go meet up with Thrall, Anduin, and Jaina at the legendary stab wound in Silithus. They’ll help you get back into the Heart of Azeroth chamber from Battle for Azeroth, to talk to Magni.

It appears he needs some help communicating with the planet. Help him out by activating some nearby consoles and then talk to him to activate the next scene. Things won’t quite work the way you want, and so you’ll have to take a nearby portal to take Magni to Dalaran. Once you’re there, you’ll talk to Khadgar to get the low-down.

Speak to Moira to learn more about her relationship with Magni, and to go gather the rest of the family. They’re in the Dalaran Visitor’s Center, which is in the southern corner of the central buildings. Speak to Brann and bring the family back to Moira. Once you’re done, talk to Khadgar to start the Radiant Echo events.

What is a Radiant Echo event and how does it work?

Radiant Echoes are large encounters that rotate between three places on Azeroth. It goes from Dustwallow Marsh to Dragonblight, and then to Searing Gorge. The rotation currently takes 90 minutes, but on August 6 it’ll lower to 60 minutes, and on August 13 it’ll shorten to 30 minutes between events. There is always a convenient timer in each zone that tells you where you need to be.

You’ll have convenient portals in the Dalaran chamber behind Khadgar. Each portal leads to one of the three locations for the events. The timer above it lets you know when the next event starts. Find out which area is next to get a Radiant Echo event, and head through the portal.

While you wait for the 90 minute timer to expire, you can go to any of the three zones and open your map. Any of the Azerite icons on the map shows a place where a bunch of Remembered enemies are spawning. Go there and feel free to beat up on them to pass the time. They mostly only give one or two of the Residual Memory currency, with the bigger enemies giving five. Most of your Residual Memories currency will come from the main events themselves.

Below is an example of Searing Gorge between events, showing where the regular enemies spawn during the off-time. Where the player icon is, in The Cauldron, is where the event eventually starts and ends.

After the 90 minutes are up, you’ll have a central location to gather around. Keep an eye on your map, it’ll tell you where you need to be if you can’t find the group.

  • Stage 1: Defeat the Congealed Memories. A Congealed Memory blob will surface, requiring everyone in the area to beat up on it. It doesn’t fight back, necessarily. But as you beat up on it, it’ll spawn enemies who will try to swarm your group. Keep cutting everything down, and eventually the Congealed Memories will fall.
  • Stage 2: Complete multiple objectives around the zone. Once the blob is dealt with, open your map and pick one of the six locations highlighted. Each one has a different Memory event happening. Those events have a different requirement for beating each one. It doesn’t really matter which one you go to, as they all give the same rewards. Try to experience them all if you can, but don’t worry if some disappear before you finish; get them next time!
  • Stage 3: Defeat the Remembered Boss. Once all the objectives have been cleared, you’ll get an announcement that the boss is about to appear. They’ll show up back where the Congealed Blob originally was, so fly back there and get ready to take them down. Each one is a familiar blast from the past depending on where you are. Remembered Onyxia is the boss of Dustwallow Marsh, Remembered Firelord is in the Searing Gorge, and the Remembered Lich King is in Dragonblight. Once they’re defeated, the event will be over! You’ll want to move to the next one and wait for the new timer to count down.

Don’t forget to turn in your initial quest to Khadgar. If it’s your first time, turn in your weekly quests to the quartermasters in each zone. More on that below.

Weekly Quests and their rewards

Several rewards are tied to weekly events, meaning you’ll be able to earn up to 3 of them total. Every week, each of your characters can defeat one of the Remembered bosses to earn a Token of the Remembrancers. It converts into a piece of 493 Item Level gear that can be upgraded to ilvl515 at upgrade vendors in Valdraken.

On top of that, each of the three zones has a weekly quest available for an extra 1,500 Residual Memories. Considering the time between events and everything, it might be best to focus on one character a day every day, allowing you to get 7 rewards per week. Once the timer starts speeding up in later weeks, squeeze in more alternate characters if you have them.

How can I earn Residual Memories, and what are they for?

Residual Memories is the primary currency for this event. It’ll disappear when the pre-patch event ends, so spend it while you can. I recommend you focus on the Lifeless Stone Ring, Mounts, Pets, Bags if you need them, and then worry about the rest of the gear. While collecting the gear for the unique transmog is cool, a lot of it will drop throughout the event. All of these can be purchased from one of the four quartermasters for the event. Remembrancer Amuul is in Dalaran, and the weekly quest giver in each zone is also a vendor.

Vendor Item Residual Memories Cost
Necks, rings, trinkets, cloaks, bracers 2,000
Off-hands and shields 3,000
Belts, gloves, boots, shoulders 3,500
Strength and agility 1-handed Weapons 4,000
Legs, Chest, Helmets, Intellect 1-handed Weapons 5,000
Ranged weapons and 2-handed weapons 8,000
Remembered Battle Pets 10,000
Remembered Golden Gryphon (Alliance Only) 20,000
Remembered Wind Rider (Horde Only) 20,000
32 Slot Bag, 30 Slot Reagent Bag 2,000

How to create the Band of Radiant Echoes

One of the best rewards from the event is a new Heirloom Ring, the Band of Radiant Echoes. This haste/mastery ring requires a few items to forget it. First, you must purchase it from Remembrancer Amuul in Dalaran for 25 Residual Memories. This is fairly easy, and should only require beating on any Remembered enemies for a few minutes.

Once you have that, you’ll need 3 essences. One from Kalimdor, one from the Eastern Kingdoms, and one from Northrend. Each one of these is obtained by combining 20 memory fragments from each region, all of which drop from objectives during an event. I was able to claim 6 Memories of the Eastern Kingdoms from my first run at the Dustwallow Radiant Echo event, so you should only need a few of these events each.

How to get the achievement “This Takes Me Back”

There is a Feat of Strength achievement (meaning it’s only available for the event) involved with the Radiant Echoes event. It’s pretty easy to get, all you have to do is beat each of the three Remembered bosses once.
